The root of winning is very simple to explain, but very hard to understand.
It simply boils down to two things - superior aiming, and superior awareness.

Now when i say superior, you must realize i'm refering strictly to one on one situations, tournament style gameplay, and in this case superior is just a fancy word for 'better'.  Each weapon requires a specific defination for aim, but the end result of excellent aiming and awareness, is hopefully a consistant want and execution of aiming and firing at your opponent, in accordance with a moderate amount of prediction and a hefty amount of precision.

So no matter how well you navigate a map.  No matter how effective you are at preventing your enemy from getting health or powerups.  No matter how you cut it, the person with superior aiming and awareness normally wins a tournament match. This ability, hand in hand with the ability to judge when and where to use a weapon, is the most lethal combination - of course this is all depending on how 'off' your opponent is whether or not you're going to win.

A good way to view this dilemna, is to first imagine one player who has an extrememly high level of skill with.. let's say the railgun (why not!?).  Then imagine another player who rarely misses a jacket respawn or a health - he's mastered strafejumping and the successful navigation of a map through and through, and has average skill with all weapons.  It is a good question at first who will come out on top - the player with the railgun will almost always hit his opponent while the strafejumping player will always be one ahead of the railgunner with the megahealths and the jackets and the health. This sort of a match would last very long, but in the end most likely the railgunner will win, given he is exteremely accurate in his performance.  If the railgunner even gets one jacket, his ability to stay alive during the onslaught of rockets and shotguns are very high.  Whereas when the strafejumper recieves his jacket, there is a large change it will only serve as a protection for the next landed railshot.  Confidence and execution with the railgun in particular at long ranges by your enemy is by far the most frustrating part of any novices game as it's easy to see there's nothing to be done about it. No other weapon can come close to the power of a railgun slug, except a close range shotgun blast or a rocket dead on - obviously neither of the latter are going to be executed at long distance
consistantly.

So please keep in mind that throughout this entire strategy section, especially in the more advanced explainations, a lot of the strategies I discuss can only be executed with both a
high (not extremely high) level of awareness and a high level of accuracy with every weapon mentioned.

Except for, of course, the basics.
