Background:  Ben Cosmo Kremer is from Elk River, MN.  He is currently living in Duluth, MN training, coaching juniors and going to college.  I sat down with Cosmo in Lake Placid at the World Championship Trials and asked him a few pointed questions.

Q:  How long have you been racing biathlon?
A: Since about 93 with a good old blue marlin my first year

Q:  I know its a lot, but can you count the number of times that you have been taken to
Cameronland?
A: Once, but the details are still hazy to this day.

Q:  Is there any truth to the rumor that you are on performance enhancing drugs?
A: Yes, guilty as charged. I like to eat large amounts of Lefse before the big races.

Q:  Where is your favorite biathlon venue?  And why?
A: Soldier Hollow, I cant miss there. Must be the magnetic targets.

Q:  Where is your least favorite place to race at?
A:  ABR trails in Ironwood MI. I raced there once in 99 and to begin they didnt get my email registration because they hadnt checked their email in a few days, then they made me pay the full fee because they didnt believe that I had sent an email, Then the course hadnt been groomed in a couple days with about a foot of new snow, so the skiing really sucked. The finish line was not marked and there were a lot of people milling around the start finish area, but you didnt know where to stop because the finish line wasnt marked. At the end of the race there was no water, the bathrooms were plastic biffies and really cold. Then there wasnt even oranges or cookies to eat, unless you wanted to pay for over priced pasties. Ill never go there again in my life. I dont care if its the only place in the world with snow, I will never return.

Q:  Whats the biggest race you have ever won?
A:  My latest big win was a rollerski race at soldier hollow in october (2000).

Q:  Who is your favorite superhero?
A: Bill Clinton, because of his invincibility.

Q:  What is the best book you have ever read?
A: Enders Game

Q:  Its true that most people dont like you.  Why is that?
A:  Unless you are a beautiful woman I will most likely forget your name. Ugly people dont seem to like that.

Q:  Who is your biggest fan?
A:  Do you mean physical size or . . .

Q:  Whats your favorite movie?
A:  Pulp Fiction and Amadeus (sp?)

Q:  Quote a line from that movie
A:  Does Marsallis Wallace look like a bitch? . . .then why . . .

Q:  Is it true that you sabotaged my rifle during a race at Camp Ripley leading to me only hit 4 out of 20 targets?
A:  I dont know what you are talking about.

Q:  So how did you get started in Biathlon?
A:  Grant E got me interested, Piotr got me hooked, Ive been addicted ever since. There really arent any good rehab programs around.

Q: No reallydid you sabotage my rifle, because there is no way that I would shoot like that?
A:  I dont have any recollection of any possible sabatoging incidents

Q:  Are you bitter with the person who got you started on biathlon and quite possibly ruined your life?
A:  No, Im over that

Q:  Do you know who was messing with my rifle at Ripley?
A:  Maybe

Q:  What would your dream job be?
A:   I think thats an oxymoron, but if I could get by as a biathlon coach then Id do it.

Q:  Ginger or Mary Ann?
A:  Mary Ann

Q:  If you could write the epitaph on your biathlon headstone, what would it read?
A:  By the time I am finished with biathlon I dont think Ill have enough money for a headstone. I think it would be appropriate though to read Died from an addiction

Q:  If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be?
A:  An apple tree because even when I get ripe people still think Im tasty.

Q:  Final question: What kind of advice would you give the young biathletes?
A:  Listen to your coach, they know what theyre talking about. Even if they dont they, know more then you..
