Seina had been unsure about joining the galaxy police ever since waking up to find himself on a spaceship. However, after being given the grand tour and seeing the promotional video he was warming up to the idea. It seemed even his parents and sister wanted him to give the new job a try, although he was still annoyed that Yoshiko and his father had eaten the cake that Kiriko had baked for him. Actually he was more than warming up to the idea, the galaxy police looked like a cool job.
“Seina” the Captain spoke trying to get the boys attention.
“Yes?” Seina looked at the man older man.
“Welcome to the Galaxy Police.” With that the captain saluted. Beside him Mitoto giggled and saluted as well.
“Welcome new recruit” echoed the three men who had previously been working on the ships controls. They too had sprung up from what they were doing to salute the Galaxy Polices newest recruit.
A bit taken back by this friendly welcome to his new job (A/N: How many new jobs give you such a welcome?), Seina returned the salute and cheerfully asked that everyone show him the ins and outs of the new job. His confidence that he was doing the right thing by following this through increased another notch, although doubts still lingered.
As the crew returned to their positions on the bridge the captain began giving orders to proceed to their final destination. Unsure of what they were doing Seina asked the captain. From the explanation he figured that it had to be a warp jump, just like in that American television show ‘Startrek’. He ran to a spare seat and began to strap himself in, the excitement of being on a spaceship finally catching up to him.
After some time sitting in his seat waiting for the jump, Seina finally turned to the captain and asked when they were going to jump. Much to his disappointment he found that many of his preconceptions about space travel were false. Feeling completely let down he un-strapped himself from his chair and stood up moving to leave the bridge. Just then the ship was rocked by an explosion. Flying across the room Seina brushed past a button on the Captains console and landed on the other side of the bridge. Just then everything chose to go dark as he passed out.
Sitting cross legged in a clearing Ranma once again began to look at the technique. He had finally managed to get Ryoga’s level of control over the technique, that is, he didn’t randomly jump unless he got distracted or he actually wanted to – well most of the time. Unluckily for him he had not managed to reappear back at his original camp, but he had managed to acquire a new backpack and some supplies. Thinking back to Ryoga he wondered once again if the lost boy actually had some control over the destinations of his jumps, after all the boy did manage to show up at the most inopportune moments.
Re-examining his Ki he saw it begin to flare as if another jump was close by, quickly dampening the flare up he didn’t open his eyes until his ki was once again tranquil. Opening his eyes he jumped up and began to do a victory dance as once again he had managed to avoid a random jump. Now all he had to do was train himself to automatically notice these flare ups so that he wouldn’t jump even when he was distracted. Happily raising himself to his feet he began to do a kata, after all, it wouldn’t do to let all of his other skills go rusty just because he was focusing on a new technique.
Noticing a crowd begin to gather Ranma brought his practice to a close, some of the random places he had shown up at didn’t appreciate his skill. Quickly hefting his bag he decided to once again do a random jump, maybe he would end up at a place that he could train in peace. Flaring his ki everything went white.
“Mama, that boy just disappeared, Mama.” A small blond girl said while tugging her mothers skirt.
“No he didn’t dear, it was just a figment of your imagination”
“What’s a figment mama…”
Seina awoke to the concerned Captain hovering over him and a blaring siren.
“Liar, that was a lot of turbulence.” He said glaring at the ships captain.
“Your wrong this is …” The perturbed captain backed of and quickly glanced at his crew.
“It looks like a large destroyer from the mass/energy ratio” exclaimed a nervous red haired man.
It was at that moment that a bright flash of energy appeared towards the back of the bridge, energy that resolved itself into a young man, slightly older than Seina himself. The man sported a pigtail and had his eyes closed, his large backpack rested comfortably on his back. His eyes quickly widened as he took note of the siren in the background and the rapid prompts for information by the captain.
“Emergency evacuation!” ordered the Captain.
The ship warped once more. Seina slowly stood up grasping his head. Mitoto turned to him and offered him some reassurance that the situation was OK. It was then that Seina saw Ranma standing in the rear of the bridge.
“Hello, I don’t think I’ve met you yet.” Seina looked at the newcomer curiously. Meanwhile, the captain was busy getting a damage report and establishing the ships position.
“…” Ranma just stared out the window at the spectacular view of space.
“Hello?” Seina prompted once again.
“Err, hi, my name is Ranma, Ranma Saotome, sorry about this …” Ranma gave his trademarked greeting as he slowly tore his gaze from the window.
Turning to Seina the captain was about to apologise for the delay when he noticed the newest galaxy police recruit talking to another boy on the bridge.
“Who are you, why are you on the bridge? Did your sleeping capsule malfunction?” Quizzed the Captain.
“Errrr, yeah, heh.” Answered Ranma, not completely understanding the Captains question.
“OK, Seina take him back to your room while we get this ship back on course.”
“But…” Questioned the nervous boy.
“It will be OK, our mission is to deliver important cargo to its destination.” Reassured the captain.
Seina grabbed Ranma by the arm and quickly began leading
him to his room. Confused Ranma allowed himself to be led through the long
corridors the showed space on the outside. Ranma may have been confused, but he
was also curious about where he had ended up on this random jump. He sure
wasn’t in
“Are we really in space?” Ranma asked Seina.
“Sure are, we are on galaxy police transport ship.” Seina began explaining excitedly, running through the tour, much the same as the tour the captain had given him earlier, only in reverse.
Ranma listened silently as he was given all the promotional hype on the galaxy police. He thought to himself, maybe this is an opportunity for me to get away from it all for a while and just train. There must be some sort of training in a police force right.
“Hey, where do I sign up? This galaxy police gig sounds cool!” Exclaimed Ranma.
“I dunno this blond detective gave me a brochure, I put my thumbprint on it and the next thing I know I’m on a spaceship to the GP headquarters.” Seina answered.
The younger and older boys continued to chat until they
reached Seina’s room. Both had established that they shared a common origin,
After Seina’s first call, Ranma looked up at the frustrated boy. Planting his thumbprint in the box Ranma dumps it on the floor and joins the other boy. Looking at the ancient phone in Seina’s hands, Ranma looks at the other boy doubtfully.
“I’m just calling my friend Kiriko to let her know I’m alright.” He defends as Ranma looks doubtfully at the seemingly older piece of technology in the boys hands. With that he quickly dials another number. Although he face showed that he was impressed when the picture of a young girl holding a telephone appeared on the screen. Just as Kiriko finally got to the phone there was an explosion and dial tone.
Ranma sprang into a ready stance and looked around warily. Seina just looked up in confusion. The emergency announcement and sirens began to clue both boys into the situation. The laser fire displayed on the screen, which had previously been showing the phone call, finalised their assessment of the situation.
Both Seina and Ranma arrived on the bridge to see laser fire coming straight at the ship, occasionally hitting it. Both boys listened wide eyed to the heated discussion taking place on the bridge, it seemed during the crisis nobody had noticed their entrance. It was when Mitoto suggested surrendering that they finally realised how much trouble the small transport ship was in. Despite both coming to the same realisation, their reactions were entirely different. Seina began to have second thoughts about the wisdom of his earlier decision to enter the galaxy police. Ranma, however, had entered battle mode and was in the process of absorbing as much as he could about this new field of combat. If one were to look closely, Ranmas’ eyes sparkled with both excitement and anticipation.
Seina finally asked the captain what was happening, although Ranma was surprised when the man took the time out from the battle to explain about the pirate problem. The facefault that he performed when Mitoto helpfully reminded everyone that they were in the process of retreating looked quite painful. It was then that Ranma noticed that a switch was blinking on the Captains console.
“Ah, should that light on your console thingy be blinking?” he pointed out to the captain, while scratching the back of his head.
“Aaah, the communication switch is on!” Seina added helpfully. The captain coughed and quickly turned it off, as Mitoto babbled on about whether or not she had said anything improper.
Moving over to the only vacant chair on the bridge Seina sat down and buckled up, whilst muttering to himself nervously. Ranma stood behind him and slightly to the left observing what the boy, the Captain, and the rest of the crew were going to do next. As Ranma looked out the window he saw what looked like a red net opening up in front of them.
“It’s an energy net. An energy net has opened up in front of us!” one of the crewmen informed the captain.
“Manoeuvre around it!” replied the Captain.
When the crewman answered in the affirmative the ship banked sharply. Ranma braced himself against the sudden movement of the deck beneath his feet. Seina looked to Mitoto’s serene face for reassurance. Ranma idly wondered if the older blond woman was any relation to Kasumi.
More energy nets began opening up in front of the small transport ship and Ranma noticed that they seemed to be slowing down. Then one of the crew announced that an enemy ship was closing in on them from behind them. At the next crewmembers announcement Ranma braced himself further and Seina clenched his fists before the ship shuddered violently.
“They hit, the rats are infesting the ship”
“Start the trap” Ordered the captain.
When the meowing started Ranma began to panic, the cats
were going to get him. Seina looked to the older boy thinking that the
situation was finally beginning to sink in, but then he saw the look of
absolute terror on his face every time a trap meowed.
Seina noticed the conversation was onto the need for the next level of traps to be activated. He nervously turned his attention away from the terrified Ranma back to the proceedings on the bridge. The crew were working on the ships controls and Mitoto was discussing tactics with the Captain, he wished he weren’t so useless.
Finally Ranma snapped, crouching into his Nekoken stance he let out a loud yowl and sliced his way through the bridge door, not even waiting for the automatic door to open in front of him. The Captain, Seina, and Mitoto turned and watched the boy vanish through the shredded bridge door in surprise. When a crewmember informed the Captain that the Rats were moving towards the engines his attention returned to the battle, he ordered the crew to deploy the next version of the traps.
Ranma bounded through the corridors following the meows of potential playmates, after all it sure sounded like they were having fun. Coming around the corner he saw transparent boxes, meowing and sliding from the walls, they were catching small blue things that ran along the ground like rats. Deciding to join the chase Ranma began to pursue the blue things. Catching one in his mouth, he gleefully loped along pouncing on others than the box things that meowed failed to catch. As he pounced on each ‘rat’ the rat exploded. At that moment the meowing stopped. The boxes started chasing the ‘rats’ and started making them explode on contact. Startled Ranma began dodging the boxes hissing at them. Seeing that the rest of the cats had started hunting the rats for real Ranma doubled his pouncing paces. Soon all of the ‘rats were gone.
As the transparent boxes began sliding back into the wall, Ranma began meowing piteously at the loss of his hunting companions and game. As the pink jelly like substance began to fill the corridor he was in however, he began to run ahead of the pink substance slicing through a bulkhead that stood in his way.
Feeling completely overwhelmed and frustrated that the pirate vessel managed to follow them through the second random jump, the Captain seized Mitoto’s idea to have Seina plot the next jump. Ordering the newest recruit to choose the destination the Captain made a transparent keyboard appear before the boy. Gasping Seina tentatively keyed in the random co-ordinates.
The Captain began to sweat when the co-ordinates that Seina had typed in resulted in a near miss. Immediately he ordered another jump which ended with the same result, a near miss with a suspicious looking ship. On the fifth Jump the Captains nerves were truly frayed and he let out a scream, urging Seina to hurry with the co-ordinates of the sixth jump. However it seemed that the small transport ships bad luck had finally peaked when an explosion resonated throughout the ship, its origin was apparently the engines. Seina and the crew were left staring at a wall of suspicious looking ships, most likely all pirate vessels.
Up until now the crew had been more or less stoic, but when they noted that they couldn’t jump because of damage to the engines, they began to panic. As more and more pirate vessels appeared they began to vocalise their panic with loud, girly screams (quite disturbing since the entire bridge crew was male). Seina just slumped in his seat resigned to the fact that his bad luck had followed him to the stars.
It was then that Ranma chose to make an appearance back on the bridge meowing loudly and carrying a limp ‘rat’ in his mouth. The captain and Seina just looked at him in amazement. The transport ship shuddered as three pirate vessels clamped on. Ranma slid over to Mitoto’s calm figure and promptly began rubbing up against the woman’s legs meowing for attention.
Watching this conflict with interest from the bridge of her tree ship, Seto Kamiki Jurai pondered the reason behind all the pirate ships that she had been hunting, and a few others, gathered around a small GP transport ship. Lady Seto’s intelligence officer and Kanemitsu Hirata also watched the astonishing scene from the bridge. Rising slowly to her feet Lady Seto ordered the preparation of the All-Ships-Destroyer, declaring with authority that all of the ships were to be destroyed.
The captain of the pirate ship that had been pursuing the GP transport ship since its first jump ordered his crew not to let the prize get away or be captured by other pirates. His crew snapped to attention and began to prepare for a final assault. It was then that a huge electricity surge hit the bridge causing the ship to shake and the red emergency lighting to flicker on. The captain quickly looked for reports from the bridge crew.
“We were hit by a strong gravity wave…” the crew member stated as he looked at his instrumentation, continuing with his report he went on “…from the energy-mass energy readings, it seems like a ship from the Royal Family!”
Hearing this, the captain ordered an immediate retreat, growling when he was told that the crew could no longer control his own ship. Another crew member began reporting on a code they had received over the communications station, stating that it was quoting lots of information from an old navigation law. The captain leapt from his chair screaming about the Triple Z and ordering that all systems be shut down immediately. Crewmembers began to question the wisdom of his decision.
“I don’t care. The Triple Z is a group from the Mikagami, the genocide dance of Jurai’s devil princess!!” Yelled the captain with sweat pouring off his face, his fear could be heard clearly in his voice. As he finished speaking the Mikagami appeared in the middle of the space pirate ships.
Authors Note:
Hmmm, finally another chapter, and it was pretty short too (I’ll try and make the next one longer. Please R/R I don’t know whether my fic needs polishing – I mean it certainly needs polishing – but I need some help actually where it needs polishing.
I don’t know which fic of mine to continue next either, or should I start a completely new one. If anyone can help me out please email me.
