Diplomacy: A Fool's Game |

In Henry Kissinger's book "Diplomacy"; a model of the future is espoused where master diplomats are the power brokers in a New World order. Little did Kissinger know that by the beginning of the 21st century diplomacy would be a decaying art rife with corruption, political bickering, and appeasement in a magnitude not seen since the 1930's. The controversy brewing over the recent Pentagon announcement that Iraqi reconcunstruction contracts would only be bid on by coalition nations serves as just one example of diplomacies' inability to succeed in a new and dangerous era. |

Leading up to the Iraq War, France, Russia, and Germany utilized diplomacy, the UN, and world opinion to satisfy their selfish indulgences and immoral relationship to one of the world's worst dictators, Saddam Hussein. A man who through the decades of his ruthless regime murdered millions of innocent Iraqi civilians, repressed fundamental human freedoms, and worked to spread his influences wherever he found the opportunity and the weaknesses of others to do so. Now that the Iraqi people are free from oppression, and Saddam is forever thrown from power (due to the sacrifice of hundreds of American and coalition forces) these very same countries want a piece of the pie at the cost of American tax payers dollars. Having initially risked no harm to themselves in the initial stages of the conflict they expect and demand a reward. However this is not what saddens me for it could be expected of Old Europe, what saddens me is that citizens of my own country are siding with them in the name of Diplomacy. |

Diplomacy is a fool's game; its arena, the UN, has become an organization that panders to dictators, mass murderers, and bureaucratic infighting. Why should I pay a substantial part of my yearly income to my government in order for them to hand it over to those very same countries who have consistently attempted to harass, embarrass, and alienate us in front of the world. They would rather give more say to dictators and genocidal regimes ranging from Africa, to the Middle East, and Asia then stand up for freedoms and the basic value of human life. The diplomacy of the UN failed to end the genocidal war in Bosnia, the killing of 100,000's of Rwandans, the killing of 100,000's of Somalians, and failed to act to end the suffering of millions of Iraqis. The past decade has seen a UN led by France (with its inferiority complex), Germany, (with a population still harboring socialist visions of utopia), and Russia (a country still closer to Soviet despotism then modern democracy), fail to achieve any policy successes except legitimizing political selfishness and bureaucratic ineptitude. |

So why again do I need to hand over my hard-earned income to these wolves in sheep's clothes? What was that? Because it's the nice thing to do... the diplomatic thing to do. Wake up America! Diplomacy is no longer the gentlemans art it was once know as instead it is now the tool of Power hungry foreigners who use it to cover over their petty interests with words like social justice, human rights, and peace. The diplomatic thing to do would be to reward our friends and discourage our enemies. Appeasement has always lead to one thing, more demands and more problems; France, Germany, and Russia need to learn a lesson. America is no longer in the business of rewarding any nation that is bent on pursuing immoral alliances just because someone deems it diplomatically necessary. |
