Parents: WILLIAM ALCESTOR COPELAN AND NETTIE WINGARD BAUGH Death: 26 Jan. 1915, 4 p.m., Greene Co., GA. 1 Burial: Greensboro City Cemetery, Greensboro, GA. 1 2 Notes: His report cards show that he entered the Greensboro (GA) Public School in September 1913, at the age of 8 (he turned 9 in November). The cards were signed by his father, W. A. Copelan. His first grade school year was Sep. 1913 through May 1914, with a passing grade in Deportment, Reading, Spelling, Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, and Drawing, signed by his teacher, Helen Davis, and the school superintendant, H. B. Robertson; according to the boxes that were checked, the teacher's comments were that he "gives up too easily," and "shows improvement"; he was absent a total of 12 days and was tardy 4 days in January and February. The second grade card (1914-1915) shows that he attended Sep. 1914 through Dec. 1914 with passing grades and comments of "whispers too much," "shows improvement," and "very satisfactory"; he was tardy twice in October and November, and missed 14 days, 12 of them in December. He did not return to school in January 1915, having contracted bronchial pneumonia. 3 OBITUARY Greensboro Herald Journal Jan. 29, 1915 BRIGHT YOUNG CHILD PASSES AWAY TUESDAY Master Lester Copelan, the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Copelan, of near Greensboro, died Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock, after an illness from bronchial pneumonia. The young child was loved by a host of playmates, and the entire community sorrows with the sad parents and relatives. He was a bright child and altho robbed of the future which pointed to a brilliant pathway, he goes to a reward higher, grander, nobler than this life. He was a grand son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Copelan, of Greensboro. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. V. A. Roark and remains interred in the City Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Sources: 1.
