Jasper Frazier "Pete" Copelan, Jr.

Jasper Frazier "Pete" Copelan, Jr., age 88, of the Greshamville Community, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital.  A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born March 1, 1920 to the late Jasper Frazier Copelan, Sr. and Willie Hester Adams Copelan.  As a child he attended school in Greshamville, then graduated from Greensboro High School in 1937 and went on to attend the University of Georgia.  He married Myrtle Marion Almand on July 14, 1945.  For years he was a beef cattle farmer and operated a dairy in the Greshamville Community.  Mr. Copelan was well known for the great stories he loved to tell and people loved to hear.  Mr. Copelan was a fascinating man and will be a great loss to his community.  He had a great love for woodworking, furniture making and his coon dogs.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gardener.  Working along with his wife, Myrtle, they grew and canned their own fruits and vegetables.  He was a member of San Marino Lodge #34 where he received his 60 year apron, a member of Farm Bureau and Fork Chapel United Methodist Church.
  In addition to his wife of almost 63 years, Myrtle Almand Copelan, of the Greshamville Comminity, he is survived by four daughters, Nancy Aldridge (Carl) of Canton, LaVerne Ogletree of the Greshamville Community, Beth Bell and husband Woody of Duluth, and Carolyn Copelan (Ray) of the Greshamville Community; two sisters, Eve Oline Duvall Smith of the Greshamville Community and Dottie Jarrard and husband Roscoe of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Dean Copelan of the Greshamville Community; seven grandchildren, Pete Ogletree, Ryan Ogletree, Frank Bell, Julie Hicks, Mary Ann Nichols, Allen Webb and Brandi Webb; 11 great grandchildren, Ty Webb, Allie Webb, Heather Hayes, Justis Ogletree, Jackson Ogletree, Kala Jo Ogletree, Eric Foster, Halle Hicks, Kadee Hicks, Nicole Bell and Tucker York; and a host of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Willie Phelps, Elizabeth Thomas and Emory Copelan.
  Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville with Rev. Bob Murphy and
Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating.  Interment followed at Greensboro City Cemetery with Masonic Honors by San Marino Lodge #34.  Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Ogletree, Pete Ogletree, George Copelan, Jackie Copelan, Allen Webb and Frank Bell.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are Wynn Copelan, Tim Duvall, Danny Duvall, Robbie Thomas, Smitty Phelps, Reggie Jarrard, Mike Jarrard, Rodney Jarrard and Corry Copelan.  Memorials may be made to Fork Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Martha Chappelear, 1290 Chappelear Road, Madison, GA 30650.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
