PIROSHKI / PIEROGIES (Baked
Pierogies)*
Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Place frozen Pierogies on sheet and spray tops lightly with more cooking spray. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Serve with you favorite dipping sauces: sour cream, guacamole, honey mustard, salsa, sweet and sour or ranch dressing. (Hey, how about Russian salad dressing!!!) *We had a little mix up on the Pierogies. Serguei says the way his grandmother made them you could pick them up and eat them with your fingers. Of course all us Polish/Dutch Pennsylvanians eat our Mrs. T's Pierogies boiled and fried or just boiled. I found lots of recipes for homemade Piroshki/Pierogies at Russian cookbook websites. I always have a box of Mrs. T's Pierogies in my freezer. I like them boiled and topped with melted butter and onions or sometimes pizza or spaghetti sauce. So, to try this Serguei's grandmother's way, we tried them baked. This took some searching as none of the boxes of Pierogies in the grocery store (regardless of the name brand) had instructions for baking them. I emailed every company that makes 'em and got back the instructions above. **We tried these for supper the night before Serguei came for dinner to see how they would turn out. We liked them baked. So we now have another way of making one of our favorite dishes. Thanks Serguei! |
