Oatmeal Bread

2 cups "old Fashioned" rolled oats
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon shortening
1/2 cup dark molasses
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups scalding water

Mix and let sit 10 minutes to cool.

Add:
1 pkg. dry yeast
4 1/2 - 5 cups flour

The dough will be hard to stir, but does not need to be kneaded at this time - just well mixed. Cover with a clean cloth and put in a warm place - out of drafts - for at least 2 hours. Knead and mold on floured board until smooth and less sticky. Put into greased bread pans. Let rise again (covered) until double in bulk.

Do not preheat oven. Bake 25-30 minutes in 350 degree oven.

Note: Use BETTER FOR BREAD Flour to better results.
