Southaven County Park

Fall on Long Island

The park is located in Brookhaven, right off Sunrise Highway and just before the William Floyd Parkway.  The park goes all the way north to the middle of the island.  Just south of the highway following the Carmen River the land becomes the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge.

Southaven Park offers hiking, camping, picnicking, freshwater fishing, rowboat rentals, shooting range, canoeing, hunting, the LI Steamers, bridle paths, and an equestrian center.

A view of a lake, off to the side.  There are always people fishing from the shore.  No boats are allowed in the lake.  This is the lake I walk the dogs around.
The park is full of big tall pine trees.  Hurricane Gloria destroyed a lot the trees in the park.  The ground is full of pine needles making a unique walking experience.
The many colors of the fall leaves.
Some of the trees are beautiful with their colors of red and gold.  This was just a little bush along the trail that was bright red with the sun shining on it.
