| Dead to Rights Chapter 1 Excerpt | ||||||||||
| Grant awakened abruptly from the nightmare, raising his shattered forearms to protect himself from the heavy grill of the Cadillac. In the dark, his elbows knocked against the cushioned lid of the coffin. He wasnt aware that time had passed since the accident, if there had really been an accident, though his thoughts seemed to speed beyond the bounds of time. He had a dolorous compulsion to move, to scream the pain of reliving the moment in the nightmare, which seemed so vivid to him, though three days had passed. As the memory came back to him, in a few slow seconds, he opened his gluey eyelids, felt restraint on his upper lip until the lip detached from his gums, moved both arms from his full stomachmoving the shattered right arm easilyand again tried to protect himself. Both elbows again thumped painlessly against a barrier as his screams filled the coffin. 2004 R.V. Roush |
