A Case of the Jitters
Abstract
Norm Jitters is a basket case, a comically hyper-nervous securities analyst whose expectations are failed by the stock market, his parents, colleagues, psychiatrists, gurus, and sex surrogates. Desperately, he puts his faith in a placebo cure to achieve anxiety-free normalcy, quickly becoming addicted to zorbing and losing every vestige of social restraint and courtesy. Norms formerly exaggerated sensitivity to lifes uncertainties should have made him nervous about a colleague who frames him for a fraudulent takeover scam, or prepared him for fingerprinting, or made him foresee a bone crushing mugging in a bad neighborhood. Battered and broken from a car chase, both Norm and the woman he loves are attacked in the hospital by the villainous Brad Suersak. Norms dependence on the placebo cure receded, Norm fights off the attack and proves his innocence. Finally, he comes to see a middle ground between extremes in his nature and learns that answers to his anxiety problems lie within himself.
