SWEET SHOW AT THE SHELTER By Elon Marie Saturday, January 26th, 2002 The Shelter - Detroit, MI The first time I experienced Rearview Mirror was on January 26th, 2002 at the Shelter in Detroit, Michigan. The true reason why I traveled two and a half hours south of my home was to see Lucid Jones for the 9th time, and honestly was not expecting much out of the band I hadn't heard of before, Rearview Mirror. Then their music started. The energy that radiated off the stage when Rearview Mirror performed was incredible. By "energy" I don't just mean jumping around, taking shirts off, and screaming, but that helped! The energy I felt was how much they "got into it" with every song they played and the love that these guys have for their music. The lyrics were smooth, yet the songs had a rough edge when the guitar riffs screamed out and the drums kept a wicked beat. The roughness in the music definitely got into me and immediately the "bobbing-of-the-head" started. Even though I don't remember any of the songs' names, the sound definitely stayed with me. I picked up their CD to add to my collection, and it fits well. On some CDs you just can't put the CD player on "repeat" and enjoy the whole CD as much every time, but I listened to the whole CD five times without realizing that I should be getting sick of the songs by then. The music and lyrics of Rearview Mirror are not what you would expect by knowing where they come from, if you're a stereotyper. I will be attending more shows in the future to support these four very talented guys from Iowa, and I can't wait!
