University of Miami Review By Dar University of Miami - Miami, Florida on the 22nd at the University of Miami. I've attended most of the concerts at the Rathskellar (the on-campus bar where the show was), and RVM managed to fill it up with music like very few acts can...in fact, I do believe that this is the first time I can remember the bass being strong enough that I could feel it on the palm of my hand through the tabletop! I think what struck me the most was how true the live performance was, quality-wise, to the EP. Some bands' EPs and albums have the shit produced out of them so that the live performace never has a chance to equal or surpass what you hear in the recording. That is absolutely not the case with Rearview Mirror! Not only was their sound every bit as rough and loud as on the EP, but the energy level was great. I did feel like they were holding back a bit though, as the stage at the "Rat" is rather small and somewhat suspended in the air off the second floor of the building...too much jumping around and you fall over the chain on the edge and 12 feet down onto the floor! Ouch! Anyway, it was terrific to hear some songs other than the ones on the EP, the "new to me" material was very impressive...my only complaint was since I didn't know the words, I couldn't sing along! But since I probably won't see them again until after "All Lights Off" is out, that won't be a problem the next time :) One of the high points for me was the live performances of "Guilty" and "Like They Were" which are my two favourite songs. The energy was just incredible!!! I know I keep saying it, but it's true...these guys kicked it to the max for the entire set! I wanted to get up and dance, but the "Rat" is not a people-up-and-dancing sort of bar, so I didn't want to look like a freak :) After the show, I congratulated Matt, Jason, and T.J. on putting on an awesome show, and chatted with Adam for a few minutes. They were all very gracious, and were as nice to everyone who approached them as they were to me. Overall, a fun night, and I hope that everyone who sees RVM in concert comes away as jazzed about the band as I am! Dar
