| Our main aim when opening the Animal Farm was to educate children living in an urban environment as to the types of animal that live on a farm. We wanted children to understand the needs of the animals, and the amount of care that they require in order to survive. A visit to our farm will hopefully teach the children about the correct manner in which to treat animals, and the amount of time and effort that goes in to producing a fully grown cow/sheep from a calf/lamb etc. We try to have different breed varieties of each type of farm animal, so that the children can compare and contrast them. We also stock adult animals and their babies, so that the children can see how the animals change as they grow. The itinery for each school visit will alter slightly according to the topics that are being covered with the children in the classroom. All visits will however follow the basic plan outlined below: + A tour around the large animal area with farmer Simon. + A tour around the small animal area with assistants Rosie or Katie. + The opportunity to walk along our nature trail, viewing our animals turned out at grass and identifying various species of plants and trees along the way. + The opportunity to let the children burn off their excess energy in the play area. + The opportunity to use our patio area for your lunch. Our visits are arranged on a 1/2 day basis. School visits in the past that have wanted a whole day out have also used an open space available on the edge of the country park, that is patrolled by the wardens to ensure that it remains a safe place for children to play. We have a teacher's introduction pack available for teachers that may be interested in bringing a group of children to visit, that contains all the information that you will need. We also sell a teachers resource pack, which contains worksheets covering English, Maths, Science, Geography, Design and Technology topics from the Key Stage I and II syllabus. If you are interested in making a school visit, please telephone Rosie on 0161 480 1645, who will be happy to discuss your individual requirements with you. |
