After one year driving my Volvo 850
2.5 20V I bought a Volvo S70 2.4, model 2000 in june 1999, one of the first
in the Netherlands.
The 2000 model has the 2.4 liter 5 banger wih
the CVVT (Continuosly Variable Valve Timing) It gives the S70 higher torque
and lower fuel consumption.
The CVVT alows the intake camshaft a 20 degrees
turn, the overlap this brings gives the engine a fuel consumption and better
emissions.
Driving the S70 comparising with the 850, it
feels more awake, more athletic. Surprisingly is the fact that it runs
so smooth. On cruising speed the engine is just quiet.
If you put the pedal to the metal the 5 banger
gives the rumble that is unique for 'Volvo's five-cilinders-power-plants'.
Volvo succeeded in making her five cilinder engine
almost as civilized as a 6 cilinder, combined with the fuel consumption
of a economic 4 cilinder. |
