The new Volvo 850 in GLT trim as it introduced in the States october 24 in 1992. In Europe already on sale for almost a year is likely to be the most innovative Volvo in the company's history. 
The Swedish automaker has a well deserved reputation for building solid, safe cars.  This new Volvo 850 has still these  reputation, next to a sporty image. The powertrain is well capable to bring the solid body in less then 8.5 seconds to a firm 60 miles/hour.

Completly analog instrumentation display includes tachometer gauge, water temp gauge, a lot of warning indicatorsand even with handgloves on adjustable knobs,handles etc. It shows its roots, like Sweden Cold!
To help find the best driving position, the stearing wheel can be adjusted both in height and depth. The steering-wheel spokes are arranged to facilitate a natural, comfortable and safe/secure grip. The dashboard is designed in a plesant uniform line. The instruments are controlled by microprocessors and are clustered in the center of the driver's field of vision.

The rear bench-seat can accommodate three adults comfortably and was designed anatomically for best back and thigh support. The first condition for safe travel is buckeling up the seatbelts. The seat-belt buckle latches are positioned well back, near the passengers hips, to prevent submarining. All seats are equipped with strong, comfortable headrests. The center rear headrest is adjustable in height.
The rear seats can be asymmetrically split. and if this is not sufficient, in case of of extra longitems such as surfboards, they can be accommodated by foldingdown the back of the passengers seat. This is still (2001!) a unique feature in the world of large sedans, wich makesthe entire combined length of the trunk and passenger compartment available for cartage.
