VOLVO 850 story.................................................................................................................................................................. by ruuds70© ....... 1

In 1978 the Volvo Car Corporation decided to start the process of developing their new cars for the late 80's begin 90's.
This is the beginning of their project Galaxy
It leads to two types of cars, a sub-compact the Galaxy 1, which gives us the dutch Volvo 480 ES (sportcoupe) and their derivates like the Volvo 440 (Hatchback) and Volvo 460 (sedan).
Next to the Galaxy 1, the project Galaxy 2, which leads us to the Volvo P10, better known as the Volvo 850.

The  P1, the first  prototype from Jan Wilsgaard, the board does not approve of.

Galaxy G-2

The new Volvo needs to be an economic, power-full, safe, even very safe, car with a roomy interior, but not too big.
This means, frontwheeldrive with a transversely mounted engine. This gives more space in the interior with a not too big overall length.
It seems easy sofar, but the development team wanted more, much more......
