Weapons: Marine
Although the M16 assault rifle of Halo 1 has been brought to a premature end, its replacement, the batle rifle, more than lies up to the high standards it set on the battlefields of the first game. The Battle rifle fires its ammunition in three-bullet bursts, and has a built-in scope, comparable to that of the original M6D pistol,  which is capable of up to 2x magification. The battle rifle is a good all-round weapon, with decent power and effectiveness at short, medium, and even long range.
In case you didn't already recognise it, this gun here is the shotgun. A rather destructive piece of equipent, the shotgun is best used at close range, pointed at the head of an enemy. The shotgun is weak at medium to long range, however, because of the nature of its ammunition, it is able to inflict damage on multiple targets when fired at a distance (this is due to the pellets in the shells spreading out when they are fired). The shotgun is best used for storming bases or during fights inside structures or closed spaces, and is Blizzard's weapon of choice.
This is the SMG. Niether me or Blizzard are sure what SMG stands for, but I reckon it's something along the lines of "small machine gun", because that's pretty much what this gun is, an UZI with a stock. Look at it! Don't you see? That's all that it is! But, *Ahem* back to the point... while a single SMG does not pack much of a punch, they can be quite effective when dual-wielded, or used in a combination with pretty much any other single-handed automatic. I think that the SMG is making up for the elements of the M16 that the Battle Rifle fails to encompass, however, his is open to enterpretation.
