(The Orchard Daycare Center)
Back to
School:
Once again, the children have returned to their classes. Here, all school children are required to wear uniforms and a particular type of shoe. There are no lockers, no assigned desks, so the children carry all the books and supplies in backpacks (mochilas). Some of them walk bent over from the load. A few have rolling backpacks but the wheels dig into the soil and make it difficult for travel. Some children are no longer coming to daycare
as
they are able to attend school but there are some still here in daycare who
should be in school but whose parents cannot afford the uniforms and
supplies. Two different uniforms (dress
and sports) are required with two pairs of shoes (dress and tennies), plus lace
and knee socks for girls, backpacks, and various supplies, i.e. pencils, paper,
etc. can easily cost $100 (dollars) per child per school year. Families with two or more children of school
age have a very hard time trying to meet all the expenses. These uniforms are required for both
preschool/Kindergarten and elementary.
We would like very much to start a new program through our daycare, one that would care for the school children
before and after school until a parent or sibling could come for them. We could help with homework as well. We
would, of course, provide both breakfast and lunch for them. A little house next door is for rent for $40
(dollars) a month plus water and electricity but we cannot afford to rent it at
this time. If we could, we would use that
yard as an extended playground. There
are a number of fruit trees on this property also. Should the Lord lay it on your heart to help finance this
extension of our ministry, please contact us as soon as possible. The house next door may not be available
long. ©
Kids Korner:
Let us introduce you to Benjamin and Noemi, brother and
sister. They live here in the Trique
community with their single mom who works, whenever possible, in the
fields.
Mom is single because her husband
left her and is living with his mother-in-law.
That’s right! Apparently the husband got angry with his wife because her
mother was helping several single moms in the area and daughter wanted some
help as well. They had many arguments
and he ended up leaving and going to his suegra (mother-in-law). When mom works, the two little ones are left
in the care of a 7 year-old brother.
This is the case too many times in this community and is a good part of
the reason why we are here. ©

We need your help so that we can feed and minister to
these children. They come from the
poorest of families and will be lost without direction in their young
lives. Will you please help us to save
these neglected Indian children. We
thank God for those who have contributed.
