(The Orchard Daycare Center)

Vicente Guerrero, Mexico

Vol. No. 1    Issue No. 1

February 2006

It Is Official!

After a year and a half of prayer and Divine provisions, our Daycare Center is now open to serve local Indian children.  It was a beautiful day.  Early morning was cold and foggy but by 9 a.m. the sun was shining bright and it turned hot in no time at all.  But that’s how it is in Mexico in the winter.  Neighboring roosters were crowing and someone nearby was burning trash.  Each time a car passed by on the dirt road, dust flew around for a few moments. Inside, the house was bubbling with the sounds of little ones playing.  We have room for 20 children but usually not all of them attend each day as we take in the children only when parents work.  We are located in a small community high on a hill south of town.  It’s a small, residential community of field workers.  It is our desire to first help single moms by caring for their little ones so they can work without worry or fear for their children.  We are currently serving with one to five year olds.  Right now, we do not have space or staff to care for babies but perhaps the Lord will allow us to have another Center that can accommodate them.  Most of these children are at extreme risk as some of them are left alone at home or in the care of an older sibling and in many cases, the sibling is only 3 to 5 years old as well.  There have been reported cases of toddlers being left unattended and locked in their house until mom returns from work.  We feel very blessed to be able to care for these at-risk children.  For the most part, the children have had little if any education at home or pre-school.  By the end of our first week, Hermana Martha had already taught the children better table manners, how to use napkins to wipe little faces, to share toys, and even to sing children’s praise songs to the Lord.  Just imagine what can be accomplished after a month or so.  We covet your prayers for our success in educating the children and for total provisions for their care.  Perhaps you can visit us one day soon.  Our phone number from the States is:  011-52-616-166-4461 and our hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You are Invited:

to attend our Open House, February 28th, all day.  Refreshments will be served.  Our address is:  Calle Baja Callifornia Sur, No. 213, El Triqui, Vicente Gurerrero.  From town, take Highway 1 south and turn right at the divided road toward the IMSS hospital.  Pass the hospital and continue onto the dirt road that leads south/west to the Triqui community.  Turn right onto the divided boulevard and left at the third street.  We are the 4th house on the right.  There is a multi-colored sign posted on the front gate that says “Guarderia”.  We’ll be expecting you.
