Supervision and
Team Conference Calls
Supervision

Every week, you (the JCSC fellow) and Esther (your direct supervisor) will designate one hour to supervision.  The two of you will leave the building to discuss the ups and downs of the week, progress, issues, programs, successes and failures.  It is a chance to evaluate what you've done and refocus on where you intend to go with your target groups.  Supervision also provides you with an excellent opportunity to brainstorm new ideas and innovative approaches to what you're planning.  It is a time to check in about your relationships with the other staff and witht the students.  Supervision allows you one hour each week to take a step back from what you've thrown yourself into and evaluate it all.  It is also a chance to reconnect with your supervisor about your professional growth, as well as your personal growth.  Your role as a JCSC is to spend 20% of your time on Hillel based needs and empowerment and 80% of your time on engagement.  Supervision is a time to evaluate how you are balancing your time.
Team Conference Calls

A form of supervision occurs at the national level, as well.  At Leader's Assembly, you will be assigned a team, consisting of other JCSCs who work in the same region, on similar campuses, or with similar target groups.  Your team will have a team leader who is a Hillel professional and JCSC national coordinator.  Once a month, you will have a conference call with the other members of your team and your team leader.  During this half hour call, each fellow will have the opportunity to discuss what is going on at their campus, and other programming ideas.  Additionally, there is a chance to exchange tips on tabling and meeting students, to express frustrations, challenges and successes.  And, it's fun to catch up with the other fellows, who really will become your friends over the course of the year.  They are a great resource professionally as well as a close network of other young people in your area.
