| Around Tu B'Shvat, I received a fun sheet assigning each person a tree, based on their birthday. Each tree describes the personality of the person. I printed up a birthday chart so people could look up what tree they are and then I made handouts of the description of the trees. On one side of the handout, I included the personality description, and on the other side was a short blurb on Tu B'Shvat. This table was a smashing success...creative, fun and easy (for both the JCSC and the students passing by!) Below is all of the information you will need to put this table together. | |||||||||||
| Tu B'Shvat Info Sheet Tu B'Shvat, sometimes called Jewish Arbor Day, is a minor holiday, but one that is filled with festivity and meaning. Tu B'Shvat is the new years for trees. In sources dating from the first century of the Common Era, we learn that Tu B'Shvat was the day that separated one agricultural year from the next. This Sunday night and Monday, January 27th-28th, we celebrate Tu B'Shvat to thank God for the gifts of creation, especially foods that grow on trees and the beauties of nature we enjoy. The holiday reminds us of our responsibility to care for the Earth that God created in order to preserve it for future generations. The "What Tree Are You" information sheet is on file on the JCSC computer at Hillel and is also printed in the JCSC yearbook folder. |
