Jewish Learning
Each week, you will be required to complete one hour of Jewish learning.  This is one hour that is taken from your work week to dedicate to yourself and your own Jewish growth.  This will in turn, not only affect your personal development, but your professional development as well.

How you choose to spend that hour is completely up to you.  You can take a course, attend a lecture, spend time in conversation or study the Torah, to name just a few options.  The choice is up to you as long as it enhances your Jewish education.

This year, I started by taking a Read Hebrew America course at the local Reform synagogue, Anshe Emeth.  I had some previous understanding of Hebrew so I did not feel challenged by the class.  Second semester, I decided to delve a little deeper into my learning.  I contacted the program "Partners in Torah" and was partnered with a young graduate student from NYC who came from a more observant background.  Each week she would call me and we would discuss the weekly Torah portion.  From these discussions, different conversations evolved regarding various issues in Judaism.  I felt incredibly challenged by these learnings.  Additionally, we discussed different holidays as they approached.  I found those conversations to be very helpful and applicable to my work at Hillel.  It prepared me for more in depth conversations with the students about the holidays.

In addition to this structured hour of learning each week, you will be learning new things on a daily basis.  Being surrounded by Jewish professionals and students, you will be constantly learning from others.  It's important to keep your mind open and try to soak it all in!!
