2 .The spiritual group teaches that giving up your life for the sake of the group will become necessary in the future. When you're in marching band all of your social life is taken from you.
3. The spiritual group wants you to recruit your friends and family to become members. Got friends that aren't in band? It's the goal of every cultified band member to recruit as many friends as possible.
4. The spiritual group is led by a group of wise masters that wear strange clothing and speaking odd tongues. The marching band has drum majors who are always dressed oddly. When on the field they will often speak in half sentences and make up odd words.
5. The spiritual group demands that you accept its teachings without reservation, even when it conflicts with your general scientific knowledge. When learning to march, this new knowledge takes over all previous training.
6. The spiritual group demands you pick your friends and spouse from its following. As you get further into marching band it seems all of your friends and even your boyfriend/girlfriend is in the band.
7. The spiritual group claims to have received its messages and directions from the people above. The marching band receives their messages from above from the drum major on a tall ladder.
8. The spiritual group has a certain group of rules that one must obey or be cast out of the group. The marching band has to follow rules or they will be kicked out.
9. The spiritual group promises eternal life in paradise if you obey the rules but threatens eternal suffering if you break those rules. This is a little bit of a stretch but the marching band promises that if you work hard an obey the rules you will win championships and dif you disobey them that all of your free time at the games will be taken away.
10. The spiritual group demands that you give up as much of your assets and yearly income to the group as possible. The marching band makes you invest your money in things such as uniforms, band trips, band fees, your instrument, boosters, and any other thing that comes up during the season.
