TONY MINCE OF FLINT MICHIGAN
Tony has been tying flies for around 7 years or so, and hosting fly swaps for some time now. I feel that he sets the standard for running a fly swap.  I can honestly say that Tony is the person that helped me get started with fly swaps so I feel he deserves to be the first featured tyer.  Tony also is a very accomplished flytyer as you can witness below.
"I got interested in tying flies and flyfishing from my dad. Actually my dad never did fly fish but he did take up flytying as a hobby (which he has stopped doing by the way). I used to watch him tie flies when I was home on break from college and was interested, but it didn't take at the time. For some reason once I got married and my wife and I were working different shifts (me third and her first) I decided I needed a hobby. For some reason flytying became my hobby. Actually it was because I remembered my dad tying flies and decided it would be a great hobby for me to start. At the time I was strictly a bait fisherman with no regrets. But once I started tying I figured I should at least try fishing them. Well now things are totally different. Now the only time I bait fish is with my girls so I can keep them interested in fishing. And the rest of the time I am chasing trout with the long rod. I do a little fishing for bass and bluegill with flies but mostly my time is fishing for trout. I love catching big browns but I still love the beauty of brookies. My flytying is actually pretty simple still. I only tie flies for fishing and not for fisherman. From my experience so far the fish prefer the easier patterns and seem to shun the more elaborate patterns. Don't get me wrong I like to tie some more difficult patterns at times but for swaps I prefer to tie the patterns I fish."
Here is how Tony got started into the sport.
