The NES was one of the longest lived game systems of all time! (1986-92) It had a HUGE library of games and some nifty preipherals. There was the light gun, the power glove(which didn't work that well), the U-force hands free controller (ditto), and Rob the robot.
The pad had a little cross shaped thingee on it that I dind't like too much. The NES didn't thave the power of the SMS but the games were great anyway! I spent hours on Zelda, Super Mario, and a host of others. I still have my nes and I play it from time to time. I have about 20 games for it ,the U-force controller, and the Game Genie.
Here s an animated shot from Mario2
The NES (left) and the japanese Famicom (right)
The Nintendo Famicom was the japanese version of the NES. The Famicom was slightly smaller than the NES and the game carts were smaller too.

The Power Glove.
The Rob Kit
The U-force hands free controller.
The Famicom had a disk drive accessory which never made it to North America.
