Tarot
- The seventy-eight- card tarot deck is divided into
two parts. The twenty-two most powerful cards in the deck are known
as trumps or the major arcana (meaning "greater secrets"). The fifty-six-card
minor arcana (meaning "lesser secrets") has four suits of ten cards each:
wands (which correspond to clubs in regular playing cards and imply enterprise
and distinction), sword (which correspond to spades and imply ill fortune,
danger, or strife), cups (which correspond to hearts and imply good fortunes
and love), and pentacles (which correspond to diamonds and imply financial
and material success). Each card has a different meaning, and if
it is dealt in an upside-down position, it means something else yet again.
In personalized tarot reading, the major arcana represent states of being
- your mental, emotional, and/or spirituall condition at the time of the
reading or the situation being described. The minor arcana describe
events or situations. The cards give messages that can be used as
tools for gaining insight into ourselves.
