Top left, the interior of St. Sophia's cathedral (1017-1031), showing
the 11th century mosaic of Christ All-ruler. Although many churches
in the former Soviet Union, which were converted to museums after the Revolution,
have since been returned to the Church, this one is still a museum.
On the right, the 18th century St. Andrew's Cathedral, designed by Rastrelli,
who is famous for having designed many of the buildings in St. Petersburg.
Bottom, Caves Monastery, the Defense of the Motherland monument at the
right, and the Dniepr River in the background. On the far side of
the river, are miles of large apartment blocks.
