| The 2001 Battle at the Bottoms champion and also the 2001 2 time Open Wheel Modified track champion was...... RUSSELL CHILDRESS!!! A bad fast Russell Childress won his way in the quick 6 to start pole position of the 50 lapper race, Childress took the early lead at lap15 or so and never looked back to pocket the $2,500 prize. All of the Soggy Bottom Boys finished out on the top of this race. Daren Obenchain finished behind Childress in second spot and Jimmy Westerfield finished behind them also. There was a count of 48 UMP Open wheel modifieds in the pits Oct, 6th and Childress was racing against such great competition as the runner up in the UMP Nationals points Chad Kinder and also the Kentucky State Champion Victor Lee. So congrats to Russell Childress on his big win sat oct 6 2001! More Racing photos below.
