• Evolution of an eclectic instructional model that synthesizes the benefits of the communicative language

   teaching approach with current models of learning and instruction from educational research and

   psychology into a framework that is useful for teacher training, research, and curriculum design.

• Development of an awareness in the academic community at large of the high levels of professional work

  and contributions of the ESL profession, specifically in terms of EAP,  to higher education in the United

  States and abroad through: the output of international students who enter their academic programs with the

  highest possible level of readiness and who are able to perform with excellence in their university courses;

  the support and service of EAP professionals through language support for ITAs; and through participation

  in the mainstream academic community by the conducting of quality research and the demonstration of

  quality instruction in order to establish ESL professionals as co-laborers in the

  American system of higher education.
