This is my first tutorial. So, please, bear me... 

This tutorial was written  in PSP 7. It assumes you have working knowledge of layers, and use of selections.  Please do not link to or remove images and or tutorial in any way and claim it as your own.

You will need:

(download 30-day trial version)

My doll_selection.zip (save in Paint Shop Pro/Selections folder)

Fabric sample: right click and Save as... (of course, you can use your own sample)

1. Open new Transparent file 300 x 650.

2. Create new layer, name it "neck". Selections/Load From Disk and load "neck.sel".

3. Fill selection (Flood Fill) with light pink color (I used #F4D8C6).

4. Layers/New Raster Layer, name it "head". Open head.sel. Fill selection with dark pink color (I used #E9C6AF).

5. Selections/Modify/Contract > Number of pixels = 1. Fill selection with light pink color (#F4D8C6).

6. Layers/New Raster Layer, name it "hair". Load hair.sel.  Fill selection with black. 

7. Selections/Modify/Contract > Number of pixels = 1. Fill selection with brown color (#815E3B). Save.

8. Choose Draw tool: 

Freehand Line

Width = 1

Antialias - checked

Stroke Color - black

Fill Color - null.

9. Create new layer hairlines. Draw several freehand lines imitating hair. 

10. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur: Radius = 1,00.

11. Add new layer "bow". Load bow.sel and flood fill with any color (I used #FF92A2).

12. Add new layer. Select Preset Shapes:

Ellipse

Foreground Color - black

Background Color - pink (#FF92A2)

Line Width = 1

Antialias - checked

13. Draw small oval in the center of the bow. Then with Draw tool (same options) draw several lines imitating pleats.

14. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur: Radius = 1,00. 

Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Name it "head".

15. Add new layer. Select Preset Shapes:

Ellipse

Foreground Color - black

Background Color - blue (#0000C0)

Line Width = 1

Antialias - checked

16. Draw right eye as a small oval. Change Background Color for black and draw pupil in the center (zoom image if need). 

17. With Draw tool (same options) draw 2-3 eyelashes and eyebrow. 

18. Choose  Paint Brush tool:

Color - red (#C00000)

Shape - Round

Size = 4

Rest options - 100

19. Draw a small point (nostril).

20. Turn off visibility of head layer. 

Layers/Merge/Merge Visible.

Layers/Duplicate. Image/Mirror. 

21. Choose Preset Shapes tool:

Heart1

Foreground and background colors - red (#C00000)

Line width = 1

Antialias = checked

22. Draw mouth. You can do it on separate layer to position mouth right if necessary. 

23. Add new layer.  With Preset Shapes tool (same options, form - Ellipse) draw small circle on the cheek.  

24. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur: Radius = 6,00.

25. Layers/Duplicate. Image/Mirror. 

26. Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Name this layer "head".

27.  "lefthand". Load lefthand.sel. Flood fill with  light pink color (#F4D8C6). Selection for left hand, directed away - selection lefthand2.sel.

28. Add new layer "dressup". Load selection dressup.sel. Flood fill with fabric sample (or any texture you wish).

29. Choose Draw tool:

Single Line

Width = 1

Antialias - checked

Stroke Color - black

Fill Color - null.

Draw vertical line.

30. With Preset Shapes tool (colors - black, Ellipse) draw small buttons.

31. Add new layer "righthand". Load selection righthand.sel. Flood fill with  light pink color (#F4D8C6).

32. With Freehand Selection tool select part of the image (see picture). Hit Delete once.

33. Then  load selections on separate layers and flood fill selections with appropriate colors as follows:

34. Add new layer. Choose Draw:

Single Line

Width = 1

Antialias - checked

Stroke Color - dark pink (#C76374)

Fill Color - null.

35. Draw some lines imitating pleats on skirt: 

36. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur: Radius = 3,00.

37. Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Tube the image.
