Biography
Eminem first started to blow up in '98 when he released his second album "The Slim Shady LP". He recieved a couple of Grammy nominations and earned many new fans. He came out with chart-topping singles such as "My Name is.." and "Guilty Conscience". In May of 2000, Eminem came out with the "Marshall Mathers LP". This album was a little more personal than the "Slim Shady LP", but it was in no way any cleaner. With the exception of a few critics, he got very good reviews and his album is topping the charts. His new album is now 6 times platinum. He was nominated for three Video Music Awards, plus one with Dr. Dre, Best Direction and Best Editing in a video. He won the one with Dr. Dre, and Best Male Video and Best Video of the Year. His lyrics are very personnal. They talk about his favorite uncle Ronnie who committed suicide, and about getting beat up in elementary school. His songs "Kim" and "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" are about verbal disputes with his former wife, Kimberly Scott. Aside from his mother who is sueing him for $10 million for defamation of character, his wife and other family members are sueing him.
Most of this started when he was 22 in '97. He released "Infinite", and even though it was dissed greatly, he placed in a few rap competitions. At the shows, He caught the eye of rapper/producer Dr. Dre. They set up a contract and Dre produced his album "Slim Shady LP". It was a success. Marshall says that Slim Shady is the evil, foul mouthed side of Eminem.
When he was 12, he was very unsocial and shy. His uncle, Ronnie was the only one he felt close to. His uncle introduced him to the rapping world. He began to develop more friends right before high school. He couldn't attend school every day, but he still passed the eighth grade. When he got to high school, they had a rule that you couldn't miss ten days of school a year or you wouldn't pass the grade. After he failed the ninth grade three times, he just gave up and tried to make it with a career in rapping. And after that was the death of Marshall Mathers, and the birth of Eminem and Slim Shady. Slim says his biggest honor was when Dr. Dre said "He liked my shit" .
