The Modern Education Society, Pune, established the D.G. Ruparel in 1952. The Institution is affiliated to the University of Mumbai since its inception. The Graduate and Post - Graduate classes are conducted in the faculties of Arts & Science. University of Mumbai has accorded its sanction to these classes for time to time.

Under Humanities, Graduate courses in Economics, Philosophy, political science & Psychology & languages like English Literature Marathi Literature are taught.

Under Science Section the Graduate courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics & Zoology are taught. Our Laboratories in Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology meet the required standards of Post-Graduate courses and hence University allows the students enrolled for the courses to perform their practical in our Laboratories. The Departments are Botany, Chemistry, Physics & Zoology have been identified as research laboratories. The University Grants Commission, being satisfied with the performance, is supporting partially the departments of Botany & Chemistry

From 1980 - 81 University of Mumbai accorded its sanction to the graduate classes in faculty of Commerce. In addition to these classes under University of Mumbai our college is centre for conducting the classes of Graduate Courses under Institute of Distance Education of University of Mumbai.

The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nasik has a jurisdiction all over the state of Maharashtra. Our college is considered as a centre to conduct the Graduate courses of this University. Further the Post - Graduate courses offered by the University in Library Science and Business Administration are also conducted in our institution.

More than 8000 students visits our campus every day and the campus is humming with co-curricular and extra curricular activities from 7.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. With the Latest Entrants being the Computer Science students and now the IT students aswell , Ruparel is looking forward to a bright and a hi-tech future. The college currently has 2 fully functioning Computer Labs. Efforts are being made to further enhance the quality and structure of the Computer Science department of Ruparel college.
