| Lost in the Woods | |||||||||||||||||||
| Youve been Hiking for hours now and your still exploring. You dont have a tent or any previsions. It gets dark. And you get lost. For soem odd reason it is in human nature to panic. Dont! Take note on where you are and try to remember how you got there. First things first. You need to make a fire or at least try. This will give you heat, light, and protection. Then you need to excape the elements. Simple to make a quick shelter. Take two poles or tree limbs and set them parrellel proped up on a brach makeing a kind of leentwo. Then just cover with appropriate size branches that are covered with needles. Do this untill you cant see through the shelter. Make sure when you do this you can fit under it when your done. |

| Cold Weather Survival | |||||||||||||||||||
| To survive tempratures of -20 in 4' of snow you either have to have great North Face gear or great knowledge of what to do. In this forum Ill atemp to introduce you to some survival tips for the outdoors. Anyone who is smart can tell you that you shouldnt go unprepared. This could kill you if you werent. Say you are snowmobiling in the back country. Way out of reach of an ambulance or any help for that matter. You get stuck, and to prevail you use all you energy trying to get out. Now you cant walk out. You must stay and to stay out in this weather of below freezing you need a shelter. Well if your lucky enough to be near a snow drift youve got it made. You see if you dig horizontaly into the drift you can creat a shelter from wind, snow, and any other danger. You dig a hole just big enough for you to move through. Once you get about five feet into the drift you round out the inside.to make kind of a inglue affect. When you get this down carve a shelf or a bed big enough for you to sleep in and you will stay warm enough to survive the night. Before you can sleep you have to take a stick long enough to reach from the top of the drift to the inside of you snow cave. Poke a hole through the snow into your cave. This will be for ventalation. Now your ready. You can even put a small fire in one of these. Even if your not in any danger you should try this. Its fun and you learn alot about how to save your own life. |

| Hypothermia | |||||||||||||||||||
| Hypothermia is a state where your body temprature is lowered drasticly to the point where your body's activities are shut or shuting down. This is caused by extreme cold. The mith as to hypothermia is you can only get it if it is below freezing. The truth is it can be up to 50 degrees With a massive wind chill and you can still contract it. Most commonly people get hypothermia if xposed to water. Ice cold water can cause a person to die in less then five minutes. The thing to do is really the only thing to do if you cant get out of the water do to ice. You need to save energy and body heat. Bring your knees up to yiou chest and put your arms around your legs. This will minimize body heat loss. If you do get out but your cloths are still wet you need to make a fire immediatly and take all the wet articles of clothing off. The wet cloths will drop your temp slowly but just enough to cause hypothermia. The common symtoms are heavy chills loss of memory and dizzyness. All these are acompanied by a sense of warming or burning. Sometimes people will take off articles of clothing because they think they are getting hot. When really they are so cold they cant tell the difference. So know you cold weather survival. It will ensure great memories to come if you can prevent what comes with danger. | |||||||||||||||||||
