| MT Rivers | ||||||||||||||||||||
| All the rivers in MT pose a different challenge and here at RUOutdoors we are trying as much as possible. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The Gallitin | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The Boulder | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The Gallitin river is my favorite river in the state. It has everything you could want in a white water expirience. The river is runnable at low or high flows. At lower flows the river is a great class 2, 3, 3+ run. If you put in about two mile above House Rock rapid it is pretty much a class 2 to 3 run. From House Rock down the Mad Mile it is a class 3 to 4- run. At higher flows the Gallie gets pumpin. Higher above House Rock it pushes about class 3. From House Rock down the Mad Mile it could range from class 4 to 5. The Gallie being just out of Bozeman Montana is home to the Vallhalla and Wehyakin crew some of the best paddlers in the world. The Gallie is all road side so it would be easy to pull someone out if nessecary. Its a beautiful run a worth every mile to get there. |

| The Boulder river woudlnt satisfy the needs of some paddlers for huge white water and big waves. Infact the Boulder is a pretty mild run. At its most difficult it would range up to 3+. It is very shallow and very rockey. It is all road side so in case of carnage it would be easy to get out. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The Blackfoot | ||||||||||||||||||||
| A pretty mild run with a few good rpids and one of the state most famous serf waves. A normal kayak run would consist of putting in at Clear Water Junction off of I90. It starts out mild with at most class 2. After the first mile or so you hit the first unamed rapid. A good short class 3 with a couple good little holes. further down the river it calms out then goes through a couple more class 3 rapids. 8 miles from the put in you reach the take out. But inorder to take out you gotta run Round Up rapid. Its a straight shoot that can get pretty bonie at lower flows but its still only a class 3 to 3+. Round Up is road side so any carnage and you could get out easy. The first 8 milesof the run is well off the beaten path so no getting out by road. After Round Up you should drive the rest of the way to a rapid called Tibidou. Its quite a distance from Round Up. Tibidou at lower flows is alot like Round Up and its road side. After Tibidou There isnt many really wild rapids but there are a few good holes and waves. The last wave you would encounter is call the Ledge. Its a perfect serf wave that empties into a pool and has a great eddy and eddy line. It is also road side. |
