Camping in Montana
Austin/ Dog Creek
Austin is a great place to camp, fish, hunt, bike ride, or just get away. You hear me talk about it so much so it must be good. The great thing about Austin is that it is so close to Helena MT. Its about a ten minute drive from city limits west of town. Its a pretty good sized area with access roads everywhere. Great hiking to be had in every direction and the camping is great. There are a set of ponds that for a lack of a better name we call them the beaver ponds. Camping could be great anywhere up in Austin. On Dog Creek side of Austin, which is the western side of Austin, there is a great little creek that is mostly road side. Lots of thick trees with some clear cuts and great logging roads for biking. There are a lot of places to camp along the road but the best places are off the beaten path. They reintroduced wolves to that part of Montana two years ago but saddly they were all terminated. There is alot of wildlife and great tree cover. The surounding area is packed with semi-large rolling hills and to the west are the Mission mountains so the sunset never cesis to amaze.
