RF) RF) Firstly, Who is in the Threats? Is it still the original members?
Jim) Threats are (me) Jim Threat & Gogsy (original members) and Dave Threat – bass, Davie Metal – drums.
RF) How many years were The Skeptix split up for? Who’s idea was it to get back together?
Jim) Threats had been split for 19 years before we got back together as a three piece with me (Jim) being the only original member, Gogsy re-joined in January this year, Davie Metal joined in Dec. last year. Jim Broon from Intimidation Records asked if I’d get the band back together, he promised me that people wanted to hear us, the chance to play those songs again in the only band that ever meant anything to me was too much to resist!!
RF) You just released a 7” single on Intimidation records, how did that come about?
Jim) Same thing with the single, Jim Broon again asked if we’d record for his label, great to put something new out as we still think we can kick arse with new songs as well!
RF) I hear that you are just back from a tour of America, what were the crowds like over there? Did you get to play with any good bands?
Jim) We toured the East coast of America, I don’t think we flew over the Atlantic to get there, I think we flew through a loop in time cos its 1981 across there, the crowds were fuckin’ mental, really into it!! Played with some great bands as well, The Krays, NY-RELIX, A.P.A and the Zombie Vandals who are ALL worth checking out especially live!!
RF) Have you ever been ripped-off by anyone in the punk scene?
Jim) We all got ripped off in the early eighties, shit management, sneaky record label, never seen a penny for any of the singles we did and its only in the last few years that we’ve found out just how far around the world our stuff has gone, four or five times over, BASTARDS!!! Also just this year we we’re ripped off by the promoters who run H.I.T.S. They paid us by cheque and it bounced, still haven’t heard a thing about it?
RF) What is your favourite Threats song and why?
Jim) I’d find it hard to pick just one of my favourite Threats songs cos they all STILL make me want to play them with a bit of venom and anger, ‘Wasted’ really kicks me in the nuts though hehehe!!!
RF) What do you think of the Scottish scene? Who are your favourite Scottish bands?
Jim) I think the Scottish scene is very healthy although there is a wee bit too much of the American influence creeping about, The Swellbellys are about the only ones I can think of that sound like they REALLY mean it, we could do with some more with that sort of attitude, FULL ON!!!!
RF) Has any of the band been in jail?
Jim) Never been in jail, don’t fancy it either?
RF) Are any of the band members into football, if so which teams do you support?
Jim) Hate football, don’t think the rest of the band are bothered about it either.
RF) There was only one Joey & Dee Dee Ramone, what did The Ramones mean to you?
Jim) AH! Now we’re talkin’, The Ramones are one of the only bands I’ve never tired of listening to, still make me and Gogs jump up and down, we used to steal Ramones chord sequences and turn them round a bit to write our own stuff, check Underground Army for some proof!! Shit, now the cats out of the bag!!
RF) Any hobbies/interests outside of the band?
Jim) Music is pretty much my all round hobby and interest even outside of the band! Gogs plays side drum in the pipeband still.
Dave Threat likes gaun Fishing.
And Davie Metal just likes causin’ trouble I suppose hehehe!!
RF) If you could go back in time what year would you pick?
Jim) I really wouldn’t want to go back in time, honestly, the future excites me more.
RF) If you could go on tour with any band in the world, who would it be and why?
Jim) MOTORHEAD, I would love to tour with them, Why- -MAYHEM!!!!!!! We’d probably end up in hospital with alcoholic poisoning with Lemmy sniggering at us but it’d be worth it!!
RF) Do you buy zines, if so which ones, do you think they are a vital part of the scene?
Jim) I never seem to come across zines that much apart from yourselves of course, used to pick up loads of them a few years back, they are definitely a vital part of the scene and I’d like to see some more recent ones!!
