Objective                  Pursuing admission to a Graduate Program in Biological Sciences, focusing research on the fields of stream and wetlands ecology.   

 

Interests                     Interested in research in the fields of watershed, wetlands, river and stream ecology, particularly in whole community interactions, and in the interface of streams and their associated wetlands and the roles they play in overall health of the entire watershed.  In addition, I am interested in human impacts upon aquatic ecosystems and the effectiveness of remediation attempts related to habitat improvement

Experience               Research Assistant (Limnology / Fisheries Lab)

July 2004 - Present, Eastern Illinois University Department of Biological Science, Sangamon River Project, Charleston, Illinois

§         Pick and identify benthic macro-invertebrates.

§         Assist in collection of benthic macro-invertebrate (kick seining), fish community (electric boat and seine fishing), and water chemistry samples.

§         Train and supervise new lab technicians, in invertebrate sample processing

 

Orientation Leader, Campus Tour Guide, University Host / Ambassador

§         Help to orient and acquaint incoming students with the university.

§         Lead weekly and special campus tours.

§         Interact with the general public, prospective students, potential and current donors    and boosters, and state legislators as an official representative of the university.

Internship

May, 2003 - August, 2003, City of Charleston Water Treatment Plant, Charleston, Illinois

§         Assist the reservoir manager in his duties of water quality sampling and reservoir management, including pumping regimen, aeration system maintenance and operation and habitat monitoring.

§         Clean and maintain Y.S.I. remote monitoring equipment.

§         Perform daily operations of plant management including, water chemistry tests and monitors, chemical feed, and climate monitoring.

 

                                    General Maintenance Worker

                                    May, 2001 - August, 2001, Tri-City Regional Port Authority, Granite City, Illinois

§         Cut grass and perform other landscaping duties as needed at the former Melvin Price Army Base located on the Chain of Rocks Canal.

§         Perform general maintenance work, painting, wall patching, changing out locks, etc. in the on base housing.

§         Worked unsupervised in the evenings performing janitorial duties.
