Lucas Cranach
The most famous person that we know of in our family tree is the artist Lucas Cranach. He was a painter in the German town of Wittenberg around the year 1500. This places him in direct contact with the reformer Martin Luther. Cranach carried Luther's proposal of marriage to wife to be Katherine von Bora, stood up at their wedding, and Luther was godfather to Cranach's daughter Anna, which is our family's connection to the artist.
Cranach painted many paintings of Luther, and I have chosen to show a few here, as well as a sketch of the artist himself. Many of Cranach's paintings can be found in museums all over the world.
