Life at Stuttgart Theatre Center

I was involved in the production of "A Christmas Carol", presented during the month of December, 1997 at Kelley Theater Center here in Stuttgart. It was a lot of fun rehearsing with a wonderful cast of characters. David Cheney played Scrooge, and Chris Hamilton had a new role as Bob Cratchit. John Henry returned to play the ghost of Jacob Marley and doubled as Fezziwig as well. The guests at Fred's party, Penny, Alexander, Mark, Alex, Katie, and Nadine made this run an extra special one. And all of this under the direction of Janet Ast, who we all agree had the patience of a saint. She had to, to put up with all of us!!! Click on the link above for a few pictures.

In January 1998 the theatre involvement continued with the role of Frank Doel in the production of 84 Charing Cross, a touching drama portraying the romance between a writer living in New York City and a London bookseller. Their correspondence between the years 1949-1969 form the basis for the play. The show was entered in the USAREUR Tournament of Plays and we staged it once more in April. Elizabeth Medaris, Mark van Wees, Katharina Zoberbier, Michelle Eller, and Debbie Harvill-Ash were members of the cast under director Dane Winters. Debbie thrilled us by bringing back pictures from the building where the bookshop was located in London at (of course) 84 Charing Cross Road. Here is a shot of the cast just before one of our performances.

Another production was a children's play called "Wind in the Willows" and returned a number of performers from previous productions. Thanks again to director Janet Ast, technical director Dane Winters, and of course Brett Harwood for all the things you did to make the show happen. As we said in Dane's thank you card. "We wanted to send you something in appreciation but how can you send a standing ovation."

The Stuttgart Theatre Center continues this year with another fine program of plays and musicals.
