| Responsibilities: | ||
| The job of M101 coordinator mainly centers around planning Saturday long runs. This can be done by asking for volunteers to organize and provide refreshments for each Saturday long run. Along with planning runs, keeping Fast Track members up-to-date with M101 news can be accomplished by writing a monthly newsletter article. Appointing a helper to write these articles would be ideal. The other duties concentrate on getting the schedule together and planning two yearly meetings, one to kickoff the training season and one to discuss nutrition and tapering. In the past, both Joan and Patti have volunteered to present these topics at our meetings. Below are suggested newsletter topics and the work that needs to be done for M101 each month. | ||
| Month | Event | Ideas for Fast Tracks Newsletter Articles Regarding M101 Activities: |
| Jan | Newsletter | Relax, no newsletter necessary. |
| Feb/Mar/Apr | Newsletter | Request anyone wishing to run a marathon this year, please contact the marathon 101 chairperson. Ask for phone and email address so they can receive email notices for M101 plans. |
| April | Newsletter | Announce M101 kickoff meeting in May - give date and place. Can be as easy as following a Sat morning run at 9:30 or before regular May Fast Track meeting (8:00). Plan to meet at 6:30. |
| May | Newsletter | Post this years proposed schedule for long runs each Saturday and refer to the website for the entire schedule. |
| May/June/July | Newsletter | Write an article about how M101 is organized(see details below under meetings). Ask for volunteers to organize Saturday long runs. |
| Aug | Newsletter | M101 update - highlight any important upcoming events like 20 mile runs(ask for volunteers to provide bike support), announce Sept meeting. |
| Sept/Oct | Newsletter | Send list of marathon runners and their perspective dates. |
| Nov | Newsletter | List Philly Marathon runners so we know who to cheer for at the water stop. Ask for volunteers to hand out flowers at the finish. |
| Dec | Newsletter | Relax no newsletter unless you would like to send out a thank you to volunteers and a recap of the year listing all the fun times and memorable moments. |
| Month | Event | Marathon 101 Timeline of Events: |
| April | M101 Work | Get copy of M101 training schedule and apply to this year's calendar. See where the Philly Distance Run falls in the schedule and modify to accommodate the race. Send the updated schedule to Patti and Joan for approval. |
| April | M101 Work | Get a copy of the Half Marathon 101 schedule to see if any weeks can be coordinated. If the same amount of miles are run by both groups, see if someone from HM101 can plan that run for both groups. |
| April | M101 Work | Post the schedule on the website - send to Webmaster Carolyn. |
| May | Meeting | Kickoff meeting - see details below about what is included in the meeting. See if Joan can attend to talk about training for a marathon. |
| May-Nov | M101 Work | Train Train Train - make sure an organizer plans the Saturday long run. |
| Sept | Meeting | Nutrition and Taper meeting - ask Joan or Patti to speak to group. |
| Oct | Party | Pasta Party - try to organize a get together! |
| Nov | M101 Work | See if Bobbi wants to put together rose bouquets for Fast Track M101 Philly runners - to give out at the finish. Find volunteers to help hand out flowers at the finish after the water stop is cleaned up. |
| Month | Event | Meetings: |
| May | Meeting | Kickoff meeting sometime before the Board Street Run which is usually the second Sunday in May. |
| Topic: Organization of M101 group. | ||
| Pass out the M101 training schedule. Explain the benefit of running track, temp long slow distance runs weekly sprinkled with | ||
| easy days. Keeping a log of weekly runs is a great idea and keeps you honest about the amount of running you are actually doing. | ||
| Suuggest building long runs on Sat. increasing by 2 miles every week and resting every third weekend by running lesser miles. | ||
| 20 mile runs are important - make sure you have at least two under your belt before attempting a marathon. | ||
| Mention Runner's World Top 40 training tips for the marathon: http://www.runnersworld.com/home.html | ||
| Recommend training with fluids which necessities weekly plans for runs over 10 miles. Most people can carry water for under 10 | ||
| miles but anything over, water stops need to be planned. | ||
| Each person is asked to actively participate in M101 planning by organizing at least one long run on Saturday depending on the | ||
| number of people running in the program. Fewer runners requires more planners. | ||
| Each planned run should include: | ||
| A plan for the miles to be run including water stops every 2 -3 miles apart. | ||
| A map when possible. | ||
| Directions to the start and time to meet. | ||
| Send the above information in an email to the M101 chairperson by noon on Tuesday. | ||
| If running track that week, announce the start place and time. | ||
| Put out water/gateraide/cups the morning of the run every 2-3 miles. | ||
| Clean up water/gateraide/cups following the run. | ||
| Hint: Try to plan the run so it finishes up by 9:30 in Betzwood when regular Fast Tracks members usually finish or better yet, | ||
| plan to be around Betzwood at 8:30 so we can run together. Incentive - refreshments at the end! | ||
| If you get stuck planning a 20 mile run, you only need to plan that run for the season. If you plan a 12 or 14 mile run, please | ||
| try to volunteer twice. | ||
| It's especially nice if M101 can coordinate with the Half Marathon 101 group. | ||
| Because HM101 has fewer runs to plan, see if they can provide the organizer when the miles are the same. | ||
| Sept | Meeting | Nutrition and taper meeting - see if Patti and Joan can assist with this meeting. |
| Month | Event | Weekly Stuff: |
| May-Nov | M101 work | Make sure you have a plan and planner for the weekend. |
| Ask planner to send their plan to email chairperson (Natalie) by noon Tuesday. | ||
| Natalie will post plan to the entire group by Wednesday. | ||
| Make sure email has RSVP to the planner so they know how much water/gateraide to set out. | ||
| If a weekly plan is not sent by noon on Tuesday, try to get in touch with the planner to see why. | ||
| Keep a list of email addresses for M101 members so special memos can be distributed directly to the group. | ||
