| MADONNA / THE FIRST ALBUM Standout tracks - Lucky Star, Borderline, Burning Up, and Holiday. (In my opinion, the album's best songs) 1. Lucky Star - A great opening track for a debut album. This little dance track is sure to get you up on your feet. Lucky Star sounds similar to Kylie Minogue's earlier stuff. The video was a good effort, but this song is not one of Madonna's greatest stuff. This song was also used on the Guy Ritchie movie Snatch, reminding people of Madonna's earliest works. Favourite line: "Come on, shine your heavenly body tonight." 2. Borderline - A nice track, much better than Lucky Star. It is a shame that Borderline was not written by Madonna herself. There is sensible lyrics and a good beat. I admit when I first heard this song, I did not like it straightaway as it is quite a grower. The video was also a good effort, but I did not particularly like it. Favourite line: "Something in your eyes is making such a fool love me." 3. Burning Up - Funky beat, very disco inspired. I liked the lyrics to this one. Favourite line: "Do you want to see me down on my knees? I'm bending over backwards, now would you please?" 4. I Know It - This song sounds kind of similar to the previous tracks. I am a glad this was not released as a single, because there are some very cheesy lyrics. Favourite line: "I used to think you were my pretty angel." 5. Holiday - OK, nearly everybody who knows Madonna will know this song. Out of the whole album, this is the best song. Very catchy, very happy, very neat. Any excuse just to put this track on, whether you're on your holidays or need cheering up. There is a long introduction to warm you up on the dancefloor. I have not seen the "Holiday" video Favourite line: "All across the world in every nation." 6. Think Of Me - I put this song in the same category as "I Know It." Nothing much to say there then. Favourite line: "You say I'm always dragging you down." 7. Physical Attraction - The first time in the album where Madonna gets sexual. Get your high heels on, girls and flash your assets at those boys! This is a great track to dance to and has great lyrics. Favourite line: "Your touch is driving me crazier than when you smile." 8. Everybody - This song just missed out on being a standout track. It has a similar effect to "Holiday" and was also released in the US. If none of the tracks here got you up and dancing, then this song definitely will. I loved Madonna's performance to "Everybody" on the Girlie Show tour. Favourite line: "Find the groove and let yourself go." Overall - The album is OK for a debut. In my opinion, this is Madonna's worst album as many of her other albums are far better than this one. |
