THE BIOGRAPHY OF THE KINGS OF HIP-HOP

They were in Rolling Stone Magazine

Run DMC was influenced by the other old school rappers of that time like sugar-hill gang, Kurtis Blow, whoodini, and Grandmaster Flash. They became the most popular hip-hop artists, perhaps the most important, in the mid 80's. More than any other group, Run DMC is responsible for the sound and style of hip-hop music. They set sound and style for a couple of years (like wearing adidas sneakers and trainies). They were first to bring heavy metal in rap music. And they helped move rap from a singles to a singles orientatedmusic genre to an album orientated one. They were the first rappers to earn a gold album- for their first album "Run DMC" in 1984, and the first to earn a platnum album- for "King of Rock"  in 1985. They were the first rappers to go multi-platnum for "Raising Hell" in 1986.

They advertised in GAP!!

The three members of Run DMC were natives of the middle class new york borough, Hollis, Queens.

RUN- His real name is Joseph Simmons, was born november 14th, 1964. He is the brother of Russel Simmons who formed the hip-hop managment company RUSH and runs the very successfull Def Jam record label.

DMC- His real name is Darryl Mc Daniel, He was born on May 31st, 1964.

Jam Master Jay- His real name is Jazon Mizell, Hes's born on January 21st, 1965

It was Russel who encouraged his brother Joseph and Darryl to form a rap duo. And so,  after graduating from highschool in 1982, Run and DMC enlisted their friend Jay to scratch turntables and started out to rap. In 1983 they released their frst single on Profile Records, it was "Its Like That" and on the b-side "Sucker MC's". "Its Like That" became a top 20 R&B hit, same with the second single "Hard Times"/"Jam Master Jay". After two other R&B hit singles in 1984 "Rock Box" and "30 Days" their debut album "RUn DMC" was released and went gold. With the second album "King of Rock" in 1985 they had became the most influental and most popular rap group in America. In 1985 they also appeared in the movie "Krush Groove". The movie also featured amoung others- Kurtis Blow, The Beastie Boys and the Fat Boys. In 1986 the time had come to realease their 3rd album. "Raising Hell" went multi-platnum and is classicof the hip-hop/rap genre; still today it sells. On "Raising Hell" they had that collaboration with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. The result is "Wlak This Way" the foirst hip-hop record that was heard by rockers too.It had a peak at #4 of the pop charts. The whole album went #1 in the R&B charts and blew up in the top 10 of the pop charts. It was the breakthrough of the main stream. In 1988 the follow up "Raising Hell" was released tougher than leather". The album was a accompanied by the movie entitled the same way, but in 1988 the rap world had changed. So people were listening to more political rappers like Public Enemy not to cross over artists like Run DMC. So the film bond and the album went only platnum without any significate single. In 1990 they returned with "Back from Hell" their firt album to not go platnum. Following to realease of "Back From Hell" Run and Darryl suffered personal problems. Darryl had alchahol problems and joseph was accused of rape. But DMC sobered up charges against Run were dismissed and they became born again christian. As those they came back to the scene "down With The King" in 1993. "Down With the King" had guest appearences/featured producing work by EPMD, Pete Rock, Naughty By Nature, Q-Tip,  Onix, Rage Against The Machine, Tom Marely, And Others. It was the come-back Run DMC needed and the title track down that they wanted #1 in the R&B charts. The album went gold and was peaking at 21 in the pop charts. Sicnce that time it was very scilent, you didnt here much with Run DMC. Run present compelation album as reverend Run, Intraducing us some fresh new Gospel and Hip-Hop Talents. He also had some guest appearences on different albums and was featured on the rapsody Overture classic/ip-hop-crossover album. Jay did some producing and remixing work. As Run DMC they had some shows and perforemed on some benefit Festivals.

But then and of 1997 there came a remix version on their old school smash hit "Its Like That". Teh remix was done by Jason Nevins and blew up to #1 of the pop charts in different countries. Also there is an Reverend Run album announced for early 1998. DMC said he lost his voice and didnt want to sing the songs that they wanted to sing. So they came up "Crown Royal".
