What to do, what to do 

I made a paper airplane today and threw it out of an upstairs window  in my house. It flew about 3 feet and crashed onto the roof of my porch. For 5 minutes I watched as the wind slid the object across the roof only to have it snag on an overhanging tree branch that I should have trimmed 3 months ago.  I went back downstairs to the computer sat down to blank screen and a blocked mind. 

My front door flung open and in walked my 5 year old girl from kindergarten. "Well did you find any Pokemon at school today" I asked her as she hung up her backpack. "It's becoming pretty "transparent" that they only live on TV" she replied.  I giggled and said "I think you mean "apparent"."  She answered  "But I thought you were a parent?" I laughed and said, " Who's on first?" Confused ,she sat down to watch her favorite afternoon show and I began to write.

Soon the door opened again as my 6 and 11 year olds arrived from school. "I was VIP at school today dad," my 6 year old girl  ran across the floor showing me the pages of sticker laden schoolwork. "I'm going to soccer practice," yelled my 11 year old girl on the way out the door. The door quickly re-opened  as my oldest daughter got home from High School and started her afternoon job as a teenage phone consultant.  I stopped writing, watched and listened to the busy voices in my house. I heard laughing and arguing, I heard tattletales and tall tales, who's hot and who's not. I saw the struggles of 6 year old trying to keep in the lines of her latest masterpiece. I saw the pride of a 5 year old writing her name. I repaired an 11 year olds knee and quickly left the room when my 15 year old started talking about nose-rings. 

I returned to the computer and realized that I had truly found some lives worth watching.
