Halo (2002/Xbox)

I am reviewing one of Bungie’s masterpieces, known as Halo; this is one of those games that excel in every field of computer gaming.
Some people may argue that this game is the best game on the x-box to date.

GRAPHICS 9/10

This being one of the x-box’s first major titles, you would expect the graphics to only good for about a year, but this game can still hold its own against the newer x-box titles. There is no slow down in this game, accept for a little split second hop which occurs between loading points in mid game.
Every expensive effect that exists, like bumping mapping is used on this game and it gives a great texture to every level.
Each race of aliens has its own look, the human have olive drab and many shades of grey in there appearance; the covenant use purple and the forerunner have a large scale to everything they have built.
Expect for a oddities here and there, like you might occasionally get a dead enemy floating in the air, and in some hectic battles you may throw a grenade and the enemy will be killed, but there will be no sign of a explosion.

SOUND 9/10

You really need Dolby 5.1 surround sound to get the most out of Halo. Though any stereo TV would do and even a small portable works well. Each sound is high quality and is a pleasure to listen to, from the fire of a weapon to the screams of a dieing covenant.
It is all very realistic, for example if the marines start talking to someone and you walk away from them, they slowly become much quieter.
There is some overly done sound effect, like if a warthog or a banshee crashes in to a wall the noise they make is far too loud.

CONTROL 10/10

I must admit when I first thought playing this game I didn’t have much faith in the control system. Needless to say I was proven wrong, the system excellent. The x-box controller does a great job of controlling Master Chief and every button has a purpose. At first they can be strange but once you master them you are unstoppable.
In the game it self there are multiple vehicles you can use and each ones control system is spot on. You can even invert the Banshee’s (plane) axis to proper flight controls, and keep default controls.

STORY 9/10

You play as an insanely powerful cyborg known as Master Chief. He is the last of his kind, known a Spartan, which was a secret military project. Your overall mission goal is to save the human race from complete annihilate from the religious driver covenant, intent on destroying earth. From the minute you start the game, face a life and death struggle to survive.

OVERALL 9/10

Overall I’d give this game a 9/10, because it is near prefect, but is brought down by a few flaws here and there.
