| How did the "adventure" start? | ||||||
| In my eyes, one of the biggest faults of this game is that how exactly it begins is never fully explained. We start the game seeing Jennifer asleep on a bus, but is this actually real life or part of her dream? And what of the trailer scene where she awakens in a park and sees her young self with Wendy, playing among the roses and a fully-grown Brown? My theory is that she fell asleep while in the park and her adventure begins when she wakes in a dream version of it and sees fragments of her memories. | ||||||

| After seeing Brown, Wendy, and a younger version of herself, the shadow of an airship flying overhead envelopes Jennifer. I think this is when she suddenly wakes up to find herself alone on a bus at night, going down a deserted road. The use of airships quickly diminished during the thirties, making the sudden appearance of one over a park odd. Plus, she sees herself as a child with Wendy and also sees Brown. While this could have been her eyes playing tricks on her, adding the airship to that, makes it seem unlikely this event occured in real life. |

| On the bus, a little boy, who later identifies himself as "Joshua", gives Jennifer a book called "The Little Princess". Many of the pages are blank, symbolizing the memories Jennifer has sealed away inside her heart. The boy asks her what happens next, before running off the bus. He wants her to recall what happened in the story of her past. By going after him, she finds herself at an old, rundown orphanage filled with crazy kids. | ||||||

| Some argue that the bus scene actually took place in real life, with Jennifer not entering the dream until after she digs up the grave and wakes up on the airship. This would make the boy on the bus and the other kids she sees before that event either ghosts or hallucinations. If that theory were true, it would also mean that Jennifer alternates between real life and the dream throughout the game. | ||||||
