Gregory M. Wilson AKA. "Stray Dog"
"I'm sorry, Joshua..."
Occupation: Farmer, writer
Hobbies: Gardening and farming, writing stories for his son, smoking and drinking(after his son dies)

A mysterious man the teenage Jennifer encounters
during her adventures.  He is the writer of the books that tell her story and the events of the orphanage.  He was just a simple, kind-hearted farmer with a son named Joshua that he loved very much.  The death of his son caused him to go a little insane-he started to drink and smoke heavily, stopped farming and taking care of his home, and he punched holes in his house.  He saved young Jennifer when the airship sank, and was a kindly caretaker to her for months, but kept her in the basement and dressed her like his dead son, even calling her "Joshua".  Some theorize that he was behind the missing children, kidnapping and killing them, possibly hoping to find a replacement for Joshua, but there are sources that hint his son was still alive at that time of the disappearances.  It is possible the missing kids and related "Stray Dog" rumors, combined with his main crop of peas, were the inspiration for the story he tells during Jen's adventure that made many think he took the kids.
Jennifer is hesitant to leave the sad, lonely man who has been so kind to her, but she eventually agrees to escape with Wendy.  Her feelings of regret and betrayal from this decision haunt her afterwards.  At some point, most likely after Jennifer befriended Brown, Wendy started treating Gregory like a dog, abusively training him in disguise as Joshua to be completely loyal to her.  As a result of her manipulating him in his already fragile state, he became a lot more insane.  Wendy called him the "Stray Dog" and told the other orphans he would gobble up bad children and reward good ones.  After Wendy loses her status, she brings him to the orphanage-scarred and on all fours-and orders him to kill everyone for her.  Jennifer manages to escape this massacre, and Wendy reveals she is not Joshua and apologizes to Jen, giving her Gregory's revolver.  Realizing she is not his son, Gregory kills her to.  As he approaches Jennifer, it seems he recognizes her as the child he cared for all those months and now that Wendy is gone, regains some sanity.  He realizes the horror of his actions and possibly also finally comes to terms with Josuha's death.  Taking the revolver from Jennifer, he proceeds to take his own life.
After reliving and coming to terms with her tragic past, Jennifer finally remembers things clearly.  In her heart of sorts, she meets Gregory at the bus stop.  His presence seems to be because he was one of the few people who cared about her in those dark times.  He is no longer insane, but a loving father trying to write a story for his son, the side of him she prefers to remember. Frustrated with his story, he tells Jennifer that happy endings are not that easy and people will always betray eachother.  Afterwards, he apologizes for lecturing her like that and offers to write a story about her, making her a princess in it. This is why in her memory, the books call her "little princess".
