Age: Around 13
Status:  Duchess

The second-oldest of all the orphans, younger only than Clara, and the strong-willed princess.  She's the leader of the Red Crayon Aristocrats, but is devious and cruel, even towards them.  In fact, the only person she does not bully is the Princess herself.  She hates adults, which is partly why she may never realize her dream of becoming a pure and beautiful lady, along with her rough, mean nature.

At the orphanage, she was in charge of sweeping up in the dormitory where all the kids slept.  Her personality was mainly nonchalant, though it often switched to a vicious one.  She could also act sweet when she wished to, but there was always a very clear fakeness to it.  In June, she helped Meg break and hide Eleanor's bird, then bet on what her reaction would be, hoping mad.

Meg loved her strongly, and though she would use those feelings to her advantage, it seems she didn't return them in the slightest.  She told Eleanor that she found Meg to be annoying and even ripped up a love letter the younger girl sent her, teasing her and saying that the orphanage goats must have eaten it when it was clear she was guilty. Still, it was she who comforted Meg when she cried.
In August, the Gift of the Month was an Unmarried Mermaid.  To make one, Eleanor and Meg-who were possibly trying to get revenge for things she had done to them-took Mr. Hoffman's beloved koi, chopped it in half, and attached the bottom to the top half of a stuffed toy.  When Hoffman discovered that the fish was missing, he believed Diana did it, but she cried and said nothing to him.  It is hinted he may have touched her suggestively while interrogating her, but young Jennifer might have twisted the truth in her own mind or jumped to conclusions.  After he left, she became angry and blamed Jennifer for getting her in trouble, shoving a disgusting rag in her face.
In December, Diana was murdered by Stray Dog. along with the other orphans, after she went outside to tease the humiliated former Princess Wendy.
