| The story so far:
Jenny Elf hopes to find her mother, and with luck her father and
brother too, on Terra Prime. For she is not a native elf of Xanth but is
of Wolfrider stock, and her people have - through a very complicated series
of events - been taken from their home world and put on Terra Prime. They
are also physically only eight years old, having literally been reborn,
though they now have their memories of their previous lives once more.
Jenny as yet knows nothing of all this, of course. All she knows is that
she somehow received a message from her mother saying that she is on Terra
Prime - the very place to which a portal has just been opened up from Xanth,
as explained below.
The diplomats from Xanth hope to find some volunteers, either from Terra
Prime itself or from other Alliance worlds, to come and settle on Xanth.
Over time, if nothing is done the human population of Xanth will gradually
decline, since a proportion of infants are always born magically "mutated"
into another humanoid species such as elf or dwarf. In the past, settlers
have come from Earth (known to the Xanthians as Mundania), but a nuclear
war on Earth has caused a rebirth of magic there, and this has had the
effect of severing its link with Xanth. Hence the need for the link to
Terra Prime that Scott has managed to persuade Rule 1 and Agent 1 to open.
How (yet another!) Astra, Angela and Charmina find themselves involved
in all this is explained in 13223.
The news of the appearance of yet another analog of herself, together
with a number of other very interesting-looking people, is swiftly conveyed
to Queen Astra and her husband, King Willian. The Queen is glad of some
excitement, for things have been a little boring lately compared to what
she was used to eight and more years ago. She orders that the party from
Xanth - diplomats, Jenny Elf, Astra, Angela and Charmina - be shown into
the audience chamber.
-
After a short
delay, as required by royal protocol, she and Willian join them there.
