| Princess Frederica turned to flee, but she had taken no more than a
couple of steps before Belboz cast his spell, and she and the pink silk
dress that she wore were transformed in an instant into a marble statue.
Belboz sighed. He had hoped that Frederica would be reasonable. Shipping
her out as a statue to the prince far away to the east would be a difficult
and expensive business, for marble is heavy and the statue must weigh around
five hundred pounds. And since only he knew the antidote spell, he would
have to travel out to the far east with the statue, which would be highly
inconvenient. Was there any chance that he could persuade the prince to
make the long journey to his own home within the Southern Caves to collect
his bride?
-
He
decided he would have to risk a teleport spell on the statue and himself.
Not something he liked doing, as it was a complex spell prone to error.
